COO (Mining) – Johannesburg

The Role :

Reporting to the CEO and leading the GMs of the various sites / contracts, this role requires both a strategic and hands-on approach. Engaging with the Board and key shareholders to ensure alignment between the organisational strategy and their expectations.

Responsibilities:
– Develop in accordance with the CEO the overarching strategic direction and plan for the Organisation.
– Define key operational plans and targets in consultation with the Group Executive Team that will ensure these goals are met and exceeded.
– Develop concrete plans for the ongoing investment in the required infrastructure and projects needed to drive strategic execution of the Organisation.
– Set the targets for diversity and inclusion with the Group Executive Team and ensure that compliance with local legislation is always maintained within the Mining and Production sites.
Although the role is based in Johannesburg, frequent travel to sites across South Africa is necessary and you will need to be available to travel up to 2 out 4 weeks in a month.

Current projects include large open pit mining contracts – which is challenging but running successfully.

Skills and Qualifications
– Previous experience with major mining companies, and solid experience in contract mining is necessary to fulfil this role.
– MBA in strategic management or a business-related field
– Post-graduate qualification in Mining, Commerce, Engineering or Business Management
– MBA/ or Executive Leadership Program will be an added advantage
– Strategic leadership and direction of similar size organisation within the South African or African Regional environment
+ 20 years relevant experience and solid senior and exec management experience is required in  Industrial  and or Mining sector experience as a MUST
