Ivory Coast is expected to become a strategic player in the oil industry in the coming years, according to Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, who recently stated that his country would become a major oil producer by 2023.
Major oil and gas discoveries
Ivory Coast had announced in September 2021 a major oil and gas discovery off its coast in the east of the country with a large deposit of 1.5 to 2 billion barrels of crude oil and 1,800 to 2,400 billion cubic feet of associated gas.
ENI and several international groups such as TOTAL ENERGIES and TULLOW Oil have also announced important discoveries in the country, which has 51 identified oil fields with four in production, 26 in exploration and the remaining 21 still up for grabs.
